About the Author

Theodore Cohen is the Ella Fulton Dunham Professor of Sociology in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. Before coming to Ohio Wesleyan in 1984, he earned his B.A. in sociology from Brooklyn College, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in sociology from Boston University. In addition to his teaching career at Ohio Wesleyan, Dr. Cohen has taught at a variety of public and private universities including Boston University, Northeastern University, Clark University, and Rowan University. Throughout these different educational contexts, he has found that enthusiasm, humor, and determination to engage students to apply sociological concepts to their own lives has worked with equal effectiveness in classes of nine or ninety. He brings those same objectives to his writing. In 1990, Dr. Cohen received The Sherwood Dodge Shankland Award for the Encouragement of Teachers, one of two awards Ohio Wesleyan gives for teaching excellence. In addition to being the co-author of THE MARRIAGE AND FAMILY EXPERIENCE since its eighth edition, Dr. Cohen is the editor of MEN & MASCULINITY: A TEXT READER (Wadsworth 2001). He has also published articles and book chapters on aspects of men's lives, especially their transitions to marriage and fatherhood, and on the family and work lives of a sample of nontraditional couples. Dr. Cohen's own family experiences include many of the issues covered and addressed in this text. He has been married, widowed, in a long distance relationship, remarried, separated, and divorced. He has also been a father, stepfather, and caregiver.

Item came new and just as pictured

Shipping and purchasing was great, and its the right book for my class.

Great for school and personal knowledge

Awesome! On time and just as described.

I ordered a $140 book. And I got a small package with piano stickers.. My class starts Monday.. I would like this to be fixed please.

Not the best condition but still gets the job done!

This is my first time getting a textbook rental through Amazon and the book came quickly, which is great! However the condition of the book was questionable. It appeared that the bottom of the book was lined with thick clumps of a yellowish, extremely sticky stubstance that I am going to assume is a glue. Some of the pages at the bottom were also stuck together because of it. I had to use goo gone to get the sticky stuff off the cover, just soap and water wasn't enough, and the pages are still a little messed up. If it wasn't for the sticky stuff, the book would have been in perfect condition.

They really should have followed a single character. The book was too short to have any proper development with any of the three main characters and important/interesting events went by too quickly. I would've preferred the book followed Bakari, as the 'bait and switch' between what I thought was the main character to a surprising developed side character was great. Despite this, all the characters were over-equipped to handle each situation they were in and it really hurt any tension this book could've had. Roland had zero character development and was insufferable throughout the whole book, only to get his way and move into power without learning anything to damper his self entitlement. Alli is your basic 'all strong female leads can only be knife wielding rogues' and it doesn't go much farther than that. Bakari just kinda has things happen to him, with an added bonus of "a friend dies because reasons" that adds nothing to the story.What this book did have was a great world. I kept reading on to learn more about the mysterious kingdom and the world beyond, it's just a shame we are never allowed to explore it. The book seems hellbent on rushing you through everything as fast as possible. I can't really see myself buying the next book.

I've been enthralled with dragons since I was a child. But I was older I read Harry Potter to my daughter. This book filled the void of magic and Dragons that I had been looking for.

This well written story has some very interesting characters. Of course good over evil is involved but the good guys don't know who or what the bad guys are up to.It's time to look back to the histories of ALL the people.This is a great book for teens and older. I'm older and I enjoyed the plot very much. It's well written too.

Mike Shelton has made a living as a regular person in a good life work, family church and writing have all been a good part of his life lucky for the reader he love for writing has grown as life has progressed for him and his family. The Dragon Orb is so well written that I feel like I am living the adventure that skill as a writer is rare I am glad he has found the ability to use and share it with us. The character development grows and continues to develop all throughout this book the new characters introduced as the story grows and developed continue to improve the adventure I look forward to reading then next books in the series. You will find the investment of time and money reading this book to be well spent.

Lacking any meaningful editing. Poor punctuation, misuse of vocabulary, no grasp of tense and superfluous adjectives. Oftentimes, irrational behavior by the protagonists with no underlying justification. Suitable for middle school use at best, and ill advised for that purpose due to the terrible grammar.

A great adventure story with wizards and dragons. The author takes you on a magical ride through Alaris and the magic barrier. Is it there to protect the people inside or out? You will have to pick-up this roller coaster ride yourself. As for me, I'm going out to fly my dragon.

I was fortunate enough to be one of those who was able to receive a pre-publication ebook of The Dragon Orb. In movies, the producers and directors rely heavily on the "magic" of computer graphics and creative cinematography when we need to be transported out of our world of reality into their world of sometimes impossible. In books, the only tools available to the author are words and their connection to the mind and imagination of the reader. As in his previous books, the author continues to use those tools with mastery as he transports me from my all too logical world of reality into a world where magic exists and dragons fly. His characters are well-developed and believable. Not only are they believable but I find myself becoming one with them as the adventure develops under the authors masterfully developed plot and characters. It truly is amazing to ride on the back of a dragon gazing at the landscape far below as my imagination is drawn by the artfully crafted words to make me a part and citizen of the realm. Thanks for a really great trip. As an aside, the cover graphics do a great job of preparing me to be absorbed into the world which the cover graphics have already portrayed in graphical short-hand.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story, both this one and the continuation in books 2 and 3. There are a couple very mild similarities to the Inheritance series by Christopher Paolini, but nothing that really takes away from either series. I am assuming the copy I read has since been edited, based on one review that claims there was misuse of grammar and tense, as I did not notice anything particularly untoward in that respect.

This book starts from the beginning and in great detail, explains how to weave a rug, many different kinds of rugs, what tools, looms to use and what kind of yarn. Very detailed and easy to read with illustrations. Great book!!

The hardships and joys that they experienced were captured with good humor and profound insights. This story represents a great way to benefit people in a very different culture by taking the time to get to know, first-hand, the people and their needs. And, of course, in the process, this American family added a lot of color and memories to their own lives. The last several pages brought tears to my eyes.

Loved this wonderful, true story of a family that moved to a small village in Nicaragua for a year. An amazing look inside life in the second poorest country in Central and South America and the amazing spirit of the people that live and thrive there. Perhaps the best part was the life lessons the excellent author shared from time to time throughout the book. A wonderful read and I highly recommend it!

For me, this is the story of a family who raises money to benefit others in great need by doing something that is very difficult for them. When I started to read the book I thought it was in need of a good editor, but as I read on, the continual flow of the day to day difficulties of daily life for the Lungren family brought home how hard their life was for a family from suburban Massachusetts. By the end of the book, I felt motivated to look up the foundation that helps the residents of this small village in Nicaragua and make a donation.

This book has a Contents section in the front and an Index in the back making it very useful as a guide to food cures found in the Bible.There are cautionary words and testimonials throughout the book.I find the book is also educational in a Biblical sense.There is information on plants,herbs,oils etc..that are mentioned in Scripture.This book has proven beneficial to me personally with the discovery of Essiac Tea and information on Saw Palmetto.If you are looking for a guide book of natural remedies this would be a great choice!It's comprehensive and easily navigated.

Love this book--I already take many of the suggestions-ordered others I found I needed from this book and feeling better--I'm 85---standing tall, took my 35 year old granddaughter to look at a dog for her son at the apl. The gentleman who helped us thought I was her mother- her mother by the way is 60--so believe me I don't look my age and it's because of eating right, not smoking and taking most of the suggestions mentioned in this wonderful book. Plan to order a few more for by "kids" before they retire.

If I could figure out how, I would rate this book 4.5 stars, only because the title is somewhat misleading. Much is about treatment that improves conditions, but are not necessarily cures, and as much is not sourced from or referenced to the Bible/Biblical times as is. That said, there is a wealth of health information that is really helpful. I highly recommend it as a reference for good nutrition and food and supplements to support good health. This will be on my bookshelf for the rest of my life.

I absolutely LOVE this book! I am all about going the all natural route and staying as close to God's design as much as possible! This book was everything I expected and MORE. It has an awesome guide to sprouting at the end, which I am definitely going to be trying out. It has educated me and enlightened me in so many ways. I have used it to help with psoriasis for my son and my hubby's seasonal allergies! Who knew that aloe vera juice would do the trick along with garlic and parsley to help my hubby get through his allergy season so much better than normal (he is usually miserable for about 3 months of the year from August - October).

Started reading this book at a friends house and had to have my own copy of it. After several years of having health issues, lots of doctor bills and medicines that didn't seem to work completely, I took advice from a complete stranger for an herbal remedy because I was tired of the way things were going. After a few months, I started feeling better and after a while the problem went away. Since then I have been searching and reading about other "natural" cures. This book gives great information on several different "natural" cures and gives biblical reference to them. I also believe with God all things are possible. If he has given us the medicine to be healthy why not use it. Have started using a couple of the "treatments" in the book and have seen improvement there too. Pray that this works for you, as it has for me!

ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC BOOK WITH TOTALLY BIBLICAL PROOF THAT GOD WAS, BEFORE BIG PHARMA / HERMES WERE!DIETS, RECIPES, ACTUAL PROOF / PEOPLE CURED FROM ALL SORTS OF CHRONIC DISEASES WHICH DOCTORS SAID THEY HAD NO HOPE; TO GO HOME AND DIE!ALOE VERA JUICE, WHEAT GRASS JUICE, SARDINES, COCONUT OIL, COD LIVER OIL... JUST A FEW. AWESOME!

I enjoyed it so much I purchased several more for gifts and they all loved it too. It's the kind of book you keep handy-a real conversation piece. I highly recommend it.

I like the information put in this book and I totally buy into the idea that the Bible has all the information we need, but this book seldom refers you to the source, or scripture of the information presented.

Very well researched information on medical solutions from times past that are mentioned in Bible. I've learned that during the times of the Old and New Testaments - there was a surprising amount of healing knowledge used by the peoples of these regions. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in Natural Herbal medicines as a complimenting source of healing options. And Yes - I am using some of the medications mentioned - and so far they are helping.
