We first bought the "My First Words: Let's Get Talking" book by DK publishing. It was the only book our toddler liked. So at about 20 months when language development was really taking off, we also purchased "My First Busy Home", "My First Animals", "My First Colors" and "My First Farm". All of them are great. I will repeat what another reviewer said, some of the photographs are reused in the books, but not so that you feel like its the same book. The pages are bright, colorful and filled with photographs of real things, not illustrations (that was important to us)! Our toddler's favorites are the Animals and Farm book, followed closely by the Words and Busy Home book. Colors is currently at the bottom of the list.If your toddler is as rough on board books as ours is, I'd recommend reinforcing the spine with packing tape. That's not a fault of these books, just well-used board books in general!I also read someone complain about the Farm book having milk and cheese on the goat and cow pages, but no bacon on the pig page. To clarify, NONE of the animal pages show meat products of farming. There's wool for the sheep page; eggs from chickens and geese; milk and cheese from goats; and milk, cheese and butter from cows. There aren't any lamb chops or steaks shown, so it's consistent- only non-meat products of animal husbandry are shown. I personally don't have a problem with it.

This book is a perfect step up from the first 100 words. My 25 month old has moved past the first 100 words books and needs new words to learn but not so much that it overwhelms her. Most of the items in the book are things she encounters regularly but is still learning the names for them. Each page seems to be grouped by items you would find in each room in the house (i.e. laundry, kitchen). It is a tabbed board book and is a bit on the large side.Unfortunately, A few of the words in the book are labeled differently from what we call them (i.e. book says sofa, we say couch) but overall it seems to be a good book for my little one. She takes to it well and I would recommend it to anyone who has a toddler who prefers real pictures over illustrations.

My 18 month-old son LOVES these picture books, and this one is great because it gets into some new categories (in the yard/ shed/ garage/ housekeeping). This is great because a lot of similar books have quite a bit of repetition (Animals! Baby Animals! Farm Animals! Zoo Animals! Not that I'm complaining too much, we have all of these- like I said, my son loves these picture books.) But my son was clearly getting a little bored (OMG THIS IS LIKE THE 7,000th COW YOU HAVE SHOWN ME- TURN THE PAGE, MAMA!) But this one has some great variety and my son really loves it!

I highly recommend this book.The words and pictures are very engaging and our 20 month old daughter loves it. It is also high quality and durable, which us parent-sorts might appreciate :-)One thing to be aware of is that there are several books in this series and there is some overlap across the books. For this reason, I'd recommend just getting 2 (My First Words and My First Animals).

A book full of new items to learn. Interesting to both my 2 1/2 year old and my 16 month old. Just what we wanted.The construction is great, and very durable to withstand the rigors or Toddler reading.

Ordered this book to help with my 2 year old son's speech therapy. He loves finding objects that correspond to ones in our house, and has become more and more fascinated with this book the more his language has developed. Highly recommend

I had observed that the parabolic stories by Jesus seemed remarkably similar to the resurrection stories about Jesus. Were the latter intended as parables just as much as the former? John Dominic Crossan is part of the Jesus Seminar group from the 80s, and he comes along with Marcus Borg and Bart Ehrmann as a deconstructionist with an interesting premise: it's not just the parables of Jesus that represent instructive fiction, it's much of the life of Jesus that can be seen that way as well. I'm an old Methodist pastor, and I don't find this book particularly objectionable -- if you have read Borg or Spong, you have looked into the maw of chaos already, and either you get vertigo or you don't -- and a lot of what Crossan says about the stories about Jesus being just as much instructional tale-telling as the stories BY Jesus rings true. This is a book to read by yourself if you want to go "off road" a little bit in your study of the Gospels, fun to read, provocative, but migod, don't take it to Sunday School and use it to teach the parables. Not the right application. Read it personally, highlight the things that make sense -- and you will find many things to highlight -- and argue with Crossan in the margins if you want to. If you want something more historical, read Reza Aslan's "Zealot,: This is theology, not history.

I really loved and learned a lot from this book. The author knows and loves his studies. It is very deep in both explanation and references. The reader is expected to be well versed in the Gospels and literature. This might well be a doctoral work. That said it is very interesting and for a regular reader of the four Gospels gives one a lot to ponder and read over to see if there are additions or further analysis to add to present knowlewledge.if you wish to hear new ideas and reflect on new points in oft quoted writings, you will highly enjoy this tome.

Those who have not read Crossan's The Birth of Christianity may find this book daunting. If you want a biblical detective story with a series of "this is what really happened" then this book is not for you. On the other hand if you are looking for original and fresh views on both Old and New Testaments written by a disciplined and erudite scholar then this is the book for you. I never thought of the books of Job, Ruth and Jonah as challenge parables. Neither did I think of the Christmas stories in Matthew and Luke as parables either, As well as those two sections from Matthew and Luke all four gospels are examined as mega-parables containing sub-parables to convey each evangelist's view of who Jesus really was.I find the title, however, to be somewhat misleading as it gives the impression that the four gospels are deliberate fiction about Jesus. This is not the case as the book clearly differentiates between the actual parables told by Jesus and the parables about him - containing both fiction and history - which were created by the evangelists themselves.

Crosson brilliantly exposes both the genius and the distortion of the Christian gospel as it evolves, post crucifixion. Have you read the parable of 'The Pope and the Pimp'? How about the 'talent' investment parable? 1 talent = $1,000,000? He reveals Jesus as parabolic challenger, inviting his listeners into intense debate and into a new world. With the execution of John, Jesus changed the cosmology of divine intervention to one of divine partnership. The Kingdom is no longer in the future, it is at hand! His Old Testament reflections on Jonah, Ruth and Job are also truly brilliant. That these archetypes of trust and faith were from cultural groups designated as 'not us', undermines the perception of ethnocentrism and celebrates ambiguity and diversity. And sadly, the book reveals some of the origins of anti-Semitism - a practice that Jesus would abhor. What an exciting read!!!

I checked this book out from the library, read it - and decided I had to have it for my personal collection. This is one of the few books I have read on Scripture that brought new and revealing insights into what the Gospels really say, and how I can apply the teachings of the Savior into my everyday life. Crossan's categorization of parables to include what he calls 'challenge parables' has changed the way I think about all parables - scriptural and otherwise. His analysis also gave me a new understanding of the atmosphere of the early Christian church, and what precisely the various Gospel authors were really trying to do.Crossan is considered quite a liberal theologian, so not everyone will agree with his point of view. Nevertheless, his analyses of the parables (and of entire books in the Bible as extended parables) do not depart from the wording of the Bible, but throw light on the parables from a different direction. I'm deliberately using light as my metaphor here, as his explanations light up the parables like a spotlight on a dark theater stage suddenly reveals what was in place but unseen all along.Every serious Christian, of whatever theological stripe or position, can benefit from this book - five stars from me.

Bahá'u'lláh and the New Era: An Introduction to the Bahá'í Faith is one of the first books I read when I declared. I had jumped right in to reading the The Kitáb-i-Íqán, which is amazing, but as a someone who does not know a lot about the Faith, starting with the The Kitáb-i-Íqán can be daunting. After reading through it for a while, Baha'u'llah and the New Era was recommended to me.It is amazing. I tell you, for having been written in 1923, this books still delivers. There's a reason it is one of the most "widely used introductory books on the Baha'i Faith." Dr. John E. Esslemont had the opportunity to actually work on the book with 'Abdu'l-Bahá, and it shows.The book goes through very important main topics, each chapter addressing one. They are filled with quotes and sections form the Writings, really clarifying the outline presented by Dr. Esslemont. It is one of the best way that I have ever seen for anyone to really get the feel for what the Faith is and to get a great introduction to and outline of the Writing.There's not really much more I can say other than: If you haven't read it yet, read it!

I wanted to learn more about the Baha'i faith, and besides contacting the Baha'is, I also looked for resources on Amazon. This book had good reviews, and it earned them. It's a great primer, with an overview of the faith, its founders, and the principal tenets. A good read!

Cogent, compelling history and principles of world’s latest revealed religion?

Reading this book with the desire to learn about the Bahá'í faith, I got pretty much everything I wanted to know answered. The book covers a bunch of topics per chapter, giving the view of the faith and its reasons why it views it this way. My only minor "problem" with the book is some of its older wording, using ye and all, not that it isn't understandable, just a little strange for the modern reader. Beyond that very small part, the book did exactly what it sent out to do, to give a very exact description of what it is to be a Bahá'í and to follow Bahá'u'lláh.

Very interesting.

Always interested in the beliefs of religions. Had a Bahai friend in Dayton Ohio who was always kind, peaceful and even-minded.

This is the book that you want to read if you are interested in a Faith that is NEW. It teaches the concept of 'Oneness', 'Equality', and 'Elimination of Prejudices'. It is actually a Global Faith, one that all the folks in the world can embrase, understand and practice. That is the concept of Oneness...it Unifies everyone. There is no class system, everyone is equal, men and women included! No one or race is above the other. The Scriptures really touch your heart. There is real substance to the teachings. Its worth reading and investigating further I think.

It is a book I had read previously. It elucidates what the Baha'i religion is all about. Giving insight in a condense way the teachings of Baha'u'llah and how to live a Baha'i life

Very good book, helpful way to change your view on viewing anger and how you deal with it.

I strongly recommend this book. I've dealt with anger issues my entire life - I grew up around anger and never learned how to deal with it. In mid 2017 life changed for me and I decided I would quit anger, much like someone addicted to a drug. I was told to look through books on the subject and find one that related to me. After extensive research, I landed on The Cow in the Parking Lot. That decision changed my life for the better. I slowly read the book over and over. It's beautifully written in an easy-to-understand way, yet very profound. I've since gone on to read many more books about anger and enlightenment, but when I need a reboot I always refer to my notes and highlights in The Cow in the Parking Lot.I just purchased 14 more copies which I am giving out for holiday gifts. I couldn't think of anything better than giving my loved ones the tool for a happier, more fulfilling life. If you struggle with anger, I encourage you to pick up the book ... you won't be disappointed.

But I did have an irritation, annoyance, pissed off, impatience problem. It was not until I read this book that I understood those are all forms of anger. I have always prided myself on not having a "bad temper," or "anger issues." I truly never understood that my constant annoyance, impatience etc. were all anger based. This book was an eye-opener for me In the truest sense of the word. The goal is not to express your anger or to talk yourself out of it, or to smother it any way. The goal is not feel anger at all because when you do the underlying belief is that "this is not how I want things to be," in spite of the fact that the reality is exactly what it is,whether it is the way you want it to be or not. The fact that you get angry in the checkout line because the clerk is slower than you think she should be, does nothing to change her speed or the situation. In other words, it's all about you and the way you think reality should be but isn't. It's amazing how quickly you can stop anger in its tracks anger when you really look at and understand that you don't have to get angry (annoyed, impatient, pissed off etc.) at all. Wow, that's big, really big.The book is based on Zen principles, but it is not religious in any way, nor do you have to be a Buddhist to benefit from it. In this age where everyone seems to be angry and expressing it non-stop, these are important lessons. The writing style is breezy, easy to read and understand even though the topic is deeply spiritual. It really is a game changer. I have read it several times and each time learn and understand more.I highly recommend this book, even if you don't think you have any anger issues

I love this book it changed my life. I don't want to over share but after reading reviews on Haribo 5 pound bag of sugar free gummie bears, I feel safe doing it. I never saw myself as being an angry person, but get this ... I was. Explosively! Anything would set me off! My friends would often tell me constantly to get help & I would just ignore them & say that they were the ones with the problem. I'd use my anger to try (but fail) to manipulate, dominate & control just about everyone & every situation in my life. One day something harmless drove me to the edge of nearly causing someone I loved very much physical harm. I can't tell you how that terrified me. It was only then that I admitted to myself... I was angry & needed help. So glad I read this book. This books approach is very very gentle. I don't want to spoil this fantastic read for you. However, I also don't want you to pass up this opportunity. So I'll say this book despite the title ,is in fact very logical Captain. While at the same time coming across understanding & compassionate. Because that's it's nature it eases you into "ah moments" when you gain insight into understandings about yourself. This book takes very little work. Each chapter has one section where you are asked to do a little self examination. I don't want to spoil it, so I'll just say that many chapters in tandem with the exercises (another book I read) had me take a-- logical & very understanding, compassionate look at myself. I'm 40 today I can't really express you you how I needed this to happen in my life. I can't tell you how close to the razors edge I really was. How am I today & what did I discover about myself & my anger? Anger for me now, I see it as limiting & damaging emotion that hurts no one but me. How am I today? Happy absolutely 100% happy about what life is bringing me everyday. Now I'm aware that life can be different & I can be happy if I choose to be. It's such a change I decided to make & I'm confident you can too. Now I'm naturally more honest, loving understanding & compassionate to myself, to others. Take my 2 cents worth on this book my brothers & sisters. I want to also mention reading this book & the book, "The One Minute Philosopher" has improved has seriously changed my life. This book really has changed my life for the better. I've read many books which have helped me in little ways but this one went beyond any other. I knew no one could MAKE me feel a certain way, that my feelings are under my control, but I just couldn't make it happen. This book brought it all together for me so Icould go beyond understanding to doing. It changed my perspective and now I'm able to see the world more clearly.I had some difficult family relationships I'd all but given up on. I read this book a few times and took notes in a journal. I read through the notes as needed, before contact with these individuals. Those relationships have improved exponentially from just the changes I've made. I cannot control the words or actions of others but I can control my actions, words and reactions. That has made all the difference.I have recommended this book many times and will continue to do so. I think everyone should read it. I,like many others, didn't think I had an anger problem. Whether you label it hurt, embarrassment, betrayal, impatience, annoyance, etc., at the core it is all anger. We could all use less negative emotions and more positive ones in our lives. I promise, if you read this and take the words to heart, you will have both.

Wow! Once again this author has left me speechless! I've been sitting here in a stupor trying to find the words to do this book justice, but I can't... She takes us to New York, Chicago, and my absolute favorite BOSTON in this book, once again transporting us on a magic carpet of words, to places so real you can see them. I mean, this book checks every single item off my criteria for a good book list, the dark broody hero, the snarky take-no-s%#t from anyone heroine, sexual tension off the charts, crazy family drama, intriguing side stories, just ALL of it rolled into one amazing story that will lead you cursing her out that you have to wait until June for more of this crew.I loved absolutely everything about Jane. She has to be my favorite heroine in recent memory. I love that the author takes us into her psyche and shows her honest flaws and inner struggles with fitting in. Jane is quirky and sarcastic and I think those are my top two favorite things about her. She's learning about herself too on this journey to find her happy ever after, and boy do they still have a journey ahead of them to get to that point lol.And lets talk about Eric. First let me say, going in I did not expect to like him. My type typically runs more to the dark, domineering, working class hero. Eric may be has the domineering part down but he's very much the Golden Boy, suited up, all business hero. Boy am I happy to say I was wrong, I'm definitely loving every single thing about Eric. Especially his heart. His poetry! Swoon! He really is perfect for Jane, and its almost like he can ALMOST see it, but not quite, and its hard to convince Jane what they have is the real deal when he's not quite seeing it clearly himself. They'll get there though, they have some more stuff to work through, on their own and together, to get to their forever. Hurry up Ms. French I can't wait for them to figure it out!

I just finished reading The Hate Vow and I LOVED IT! This book is my favorite right with Nico.We first met Eric and Jane in the Spitfire trilogy. They were Skylar's best friends. There was always so much going on with them, they're fire, hot and cold, friends and lovers and then hate.Their story brings them together with a predicament Eric is living and needs her help. Throughout the story we witness them falling in love again thru fighting and dealing with so much.Nicole introduces bunch of new characters, some you'll love and some you'll hate if you're like me. The book ends on a cliffy but it's a delicious one (If we can call it that). I hate drama but the one displayed in this story is different, it'll keep you hooked to the book.I can't wait for the other books.

All I can say is…WOW! This is Ms. French’s best yet, and that is really saying something as her previous books have been nothing short of fantastic.Eric and Jane will set your reading device on fire. The chemistry between these two is off the charts. Their interactions and the way they play off each other made for an exciting and intriguing story.The dynamic between them was akin to watching a tennis match. The back and forth of the “I hate you”’, “I love you” leaves the reader just as confused and emotional as the characters.And the ending? The ending will leave you filled with anticipation for the next book.

God this book! I’m in love with the journey I just went on and still kind of amazed about the black holeI somehow fell into. I need book two like I need my next hit (and I don’t even smoke). I wanted to cheer with Jane and I wanted to smack her at the same time. Kind of like how I was marginally pissed at Skyler in the spitfire series for some questionable decisions...Jane doesn’t disappoint. And Eric. Yeah he gets my vote - a climber who spouts poetry? Sign me up. Read it. You won’t regret it.

I didn’t know I needed this book. But I did and now I need the next one. I love this world and even more I love that I got to see ALL of my favorite characters. This book is beautifully written which I have come to expect from this author. AMAZING charaters and jumping back into a world that I didn’t even realized I missed so very much. Thank you for the great read. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

I knew going into this book I would like it. I mean come on Nicole French wrote it, but about a third way into it I was absolutely in love with it. I was taken on a journey with Jane and Eric and I didn't want it to end. The characters are so well written I feel as though I really know them and the storyline had the ups and downs of a love hate relationship filled with a constant feeling of woah and what just happened there. The next book can't come quick enough!

This Author is new to me. I'm now eager to read more of her work. This book has everything. I laughed the banter was funny, and I love the witty Jane.No spoilers from me, but Jane lands herself into some trouble. But this doesn't stop her. Eric needs Jane they make a deal so they can get the cash. I highly recommend this book and I can't wait for the next one. This does have a cliffy

I have been patiently waiting for Eric and Jane's story and so excited to finally have it! Nicole French did not disappoint! Once again she developed a story that was hot and sexy with a couple who loved to hate each other! I really loved getting to know Jane better. Shes fun and quirky with a who cares what you think of me attitude! While I found Eric to be hot, sexy and sweet im still not sure what to think of him. There are still so many layers to peel away. I feel like there's a whole other side we need to explore. I think thats why I found myself annoyed with him at times when it came to Jane and everything that was happening to her. I wanted to shake some sense into him. I cant believe we have to wait till June to find out what happens after that ending! Im still trying to wrap my head around what just happened! Nicole definitely has me curious and so many questions need to be amswered, I can't wait!
