Rosie has been labeled a diva but what she really is is kind and caring and struggling to keep things together for her granny. I hope Rosie returns because she needs to resolve the brother situation. Rosie goes beyond her job to help others. I love that she does tons of research instead of jumping head first into messes. Gabe is a wonderful friend and I loved that Mateo turned out to be one as well. Rosie needs a lot of support on her side so it was great to see the guys help her. Good twist to the murder. Would definitely love to see Rosie return.
Rosie is a has been from Hollywood who returns home to help take care of her grandmother who is in an assisted living home. She takes a job as a professional mourned and soon gets involved in a murder mystery. Very fun book to read!
I've been reading these out of order and they've all been well written. This one wasn't my top it seemed to drag a bit and I didn't love the main character. However, it was still a good read.
The Diva Rosalind Devoe is in a tough predicament when she has an all out fit after catching her cheating boyfriend. The sad part is that Rosalind didn’t really care about the cheating jerk, but her outburst earned her the Hollywood name and now she is stuck with it. It’s like no one knew her name until this dramatic incident and now the rumor mill is keeping at it. Her louse of a twin brother doesn’t help the situation when he takes their Grandmother for all she is worth leaving Rosalind holding all the responsibility.Her career was already on thin ice and it takes a nose dive after her Diva moment. Now Rosie is looking for any job she can get. Without her best friend Gabe and his temperamental but very sexy cousin Mateo, Rosalind would be out on her caboose. Her first priority is taking care of her Grammy and making sure that she always has a place for her and her trusty pooch, Burt Lancaster Jr. Rosalind will do any and everything to take care of her Grammy.The bills just wont stop coming in waves and she is desperate for a gig. When Grammy’s nurse Pearl offers a suggestion, Rosalind at first says no, but pride doesn’t pay the bills.Being a professional mourner is not something that Rosalind ever saw herself doing, she can’t even believe that people would hire someone to attend a funeral. After taking on her first appearance and having to do a eulogy for one of the most hated people she has ever come across, Rosalind ends up biting off more than she can chew.Trying to give a little back to Nurse Pearl after discovering her secret relationship to Harold Baumgartner and experiencing the explosive attitude between her and his nephew Bowman. Rosalind finds herself wrapped up in a theory and thanks to support from Gabe and Mateo she follows through with her theory and puts herself in unexpected danger.This book was filled with laughs and animation. I never thought of professional mourning as a career, but for the right actresses or actor there could be great money to be made. I am going to be looking for the other books in this series to see how many amateur sleuths are in the making. I hope there will be a follow up for Rosalind Devoe.
Rosie’s acting career is over. And now she needs money, and fast. She needs to pay rent and also her Grammy’s rent for the nursing home she’s in. And she needs money for other basic things, like, you know, bananas. Exit Stage Left needs another actress, so that’s a new job opportunity. But it’s hard to keep a low profile when you’re somewhat famous. Her downfall from Hollywood is all over social media and she’s known as an attention-seeking diva. When there’s doubts over whether the deceased slipped and fell (accident) or was pushed and fell (thus murder), she starts investigating and doesn’t give up. And actually, she’s not like a diva at all, she’s kind and caring and giving. Not bitter which would have been easy with all the misfortune she’s had. I really liked her. And I appreciate the nod to Pride and Prejudice with her last name Collins.I loved this book. Well-written, page-turnery, suspenseful, and fun. I didn’t know whodunit until the very end. Rosie does some things that had me yelling “don’t do that, no, what are you doing!†But she IS brave and smart. And things get mighty dangerous… This was a new-to-me author and now I have bought and pre-ordered her other books too, that’s how much I loved it!
This was a fun read! K. M. Waller had me laughing out loud with the situations Rosie finds herself in. Her antics with her acting career and trying to find a way to earn money to help take care of her grandmother will have you chuckling and gasping in shock.This was the first book I've read in the Funeral Fakers series, and I will read more of the books. This had a little bit of everything...murder, mystery, excitement, relationships, friends, family, humor, and a potential relationship with her friend's cousin...who happens to be her roommate(!).This is one of the books that I will recommend to friends when they want a light read with lots of giggles thrown in.
Mourning Express is my favorite in The Funeral Faker series so far. I loved Rosie and her determination to do a job well. With a bad rep following her as a diva, she's struggling to find a job when she takes on the role of a professional mourner.Her first job highlights her past and bad reputation when she's asked to give a eulogy for a man she's never met. A man that everyone seems to hate. But as she digs deeper into the man's past as research for her role, she finds out that his death was no accident at all.With the help of her best friend - who just happens to be a stellar make-up artist - and her roommate, she takes on several really fun roles to try and find out the truth. While she hates her reputation as a diva, she finds that having made a name for herself isn't all that bad sometimes - and actually helps on occasion.A great mystery with some of my favorite characters.**I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book**
