This is that kind of book . . . Heartbreakingly honest."—San Francisco Chronicle "Bold, even breathtaking. You get the sense [the] characters are bursting through the words, breaking free of normal metaphors and constructions, jubilantly trying to rise up from the prison of language . . . The book celebrates art’s capacity to heal, but it also shows us how we excavate meaning from the art we cherish, and how we find reflections of ourselves within it. . . . I’ll Give You the Sun is a dazzling mirror"—Lauren Oliver for the New York Times Book Review "Both structurally virtuosic . . . and emotionally wrenching. That alone is a rare combination in literature, YA or otherwise. But then add in the characters . . . This book is a rebuttal to anyone suggesting YA, because it tells stories of young people, is somehow of lesser stuff. I’ll Give You The Sun is literature. Full stop. In my opinion, it’s not just the best YA book of the year, but one of the best books of the year."—Gayle Forman for Parade "This book is many things at once, all of them engrossing. It's a book where teenagers think in almost indulgently poetic language while still sounding genuinely adolescent. It's two separate but equally intoxicating love stories. . . . Most of all, it's the mystery of what happened to tear Noah and Jude apart, and what—if anything—can bring them back together again."—NPR's Guide to 2014's Great Reads "This book is about many things: grief, sexuality, creativity, bravery, identity, guilt. But mostly it's about love. Be prepared with more tissues than you needed for The Fault in Our Stars, a chunky notebook to scribble down all the quotes and a handful of witty responses when people ask why you're chuckling to yourself in the corner. Because this book will make you realise how beautiful words can be."—The Guardian "Simply unforgettable. . . . If you’re looking for a book that’s deep and powerful and beautiful, look no further. You must read I’ll Give You the Sun."—Lisa Parkin for the Huffington Post’s “Top 12 Young Adult Books of 2014” * “Readers are meant to feel big things, and they will—Nelson’s novel brims with emotion (grief, longing, and love in particular) as Noah, Jude, and the broken individuals in their lives find ways to heal.”—Publishers Weekly, starred review * "A resplendent novel...Art and wonder fill each page."—School Library Journal, starred review * "Nelson’s prose is replete with moments of stunning emotional clarity, and her characters are as irresistible to the reader as they are to each other . . . No matter how they hurt each other, the love among all the characters is huge here—huge enough to destroy, huge enough to forgive, and huge enough to put their broken world back together again."—BCCB, starred review * "In an electric style evoking the highly visual imaginations of the young narrators, Nelson captures the fraught, antagonistic, yet deeply loving relationship Jude and Noah share."—Booklist, starred review* "An intricate and absorbing work of art emerges from the details of the interlaced sections. Few novels about twins capture so well the rewards and challenges . . . or the way in which people who have loved us remain in our minds after their deaths."—VOYA, perfect score* "Readers will be hooked."—Library Media Connection“The novel is structurally brilliant, moving back and forth across timelines to reveal each teen's respective exhilaration and anguish . . . Nelson's prose scintillates . . . dizzyingly visual . . . Here's a narrative experience readers won't soon forget.”—Kirkus "Told in poetic prose with the barest hint of magical realism . . . a compelling meditation on love, grief, sexuality, family, and fate."—Horn Book "I've gotten so involved in a book that I've missed my subway stop because I was reading; Jandy Nelson's I'll Give You the Sun might be the first time where I saw my stop and skipped it anyway."—The Daily Beast "I'll Give You the Sun is a daydream . . . otherworldly and mesmerizing . . . Nelson's evocative language envelops one's imagination . . . an exquisite surrender to wonder and possibilities."—The Boston Globe "I'll Give You the Sun gives the word 'intense' new meaning . . . a novel that makes you want to go out and skydive, but if you can read a novel like this now and then, you don't need to."—Newsday "This one is going to be big... It is full of all the good stuff that sticks with you: love, identity struggles, loss, betrayal, and the complications of family, so you'll probably feel all the feels."—Bustle.com "A blazing prismatic explosion of color . . . I'll Give You the Sun is that rare, immersive teen novel: To read it is a coming-of-age experience in itself."—Entertainment Weekly "[These] viewpoints—Noah’s at 13 and 14, Jude's at 16—intersect in surprising ways, and eventually come together in a satisfying, if bittersweet, conclusion. . . . Young adults will learn they're not alone in navigating the emotional highs and lows of finding their identity; older readers will have moments of wistful recognition. I, for one, devoured this book.”—Montreal Gazette "It's a meditation on life, art, family, fate, and how even the most broken people can help fix one another . . . This book will tear through you like a hurricane, leaving you in ruined awe."—Huffington Post "Ingeniously told from the alternating perspectives of its spunky twin protagonists, this (technically) young adult noel jubilantly holds its own against the fall's grown-up offerings, with dead-on insights about surviving youth—and family."—O, the Oprah Magazine "You'd think that we were plugging The Fault in Our Stars, but even that comparison might sell short I'll Give You the Sun... [It's] planted firmly in the positive, making for a gravity-defying, life-affirming experience."—San Francisco Magazine "[Nelson] has an electrifying facility with description, especially how her characters feel at a given moment . . . [Jude], Noah, and the fine cast of subsidiary characters . . . are most memorable for how they poignantly illustrate the most basic of human emotions—love, grief, shame, remorse, joy."—Chicago Tribune “One of Fall’s most anticipated YA books . . . it’s filled with complex and controversial themes that are relatable to anyone who has struggled with identity, sexuality, family ties and other struggles of growing up.”—Mashable.com "Will pluck at your heartstrings."—People "A wild, beautiful, and profoundly moving novel. Jandy Nelson’s writing is so electric, so alive, her pages practically glow in the dark." —Ransom Riggs, New York Times bestselling author of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children and Hollow City "Jandy Nelson is a rare, explosive talent, and one of the best writers working today. Her prose is vivid, breathtaking, and drenched in passion, and her stories remind me why words can change the world." —Tahereh Mafi, New York Times bestselling author of the Shatter Me series  "I love this book. The book deserves multiple readings simply to savor Nelson's luscious language..."—NPR (chosen by Gayle Forman as one of the top five teen reads of 2010) "How grief and love run side by side is sensitively and intensely explored in this energetic, poetic, and warm-blooded novel."—The Guardian "An addictive, romantic, heartbreaking, and wise tale of one girl's epic loss—and equally epic self-discovery. Seriously, stop reading this blurb; start reading this book!"—Gayle Forman, author of the New York Times Bestseller If I Stay "Wow. I sobbed my eyes out and then laughed through the tears. I have not fallen in love with a story and its characters like this in a long time. Stunning, heartbreaking, hilarious. A story that shakes the earth."—An Na, winner of the Michael L. About the Author

Jandy Nelson, like her characters in I’ll Give you the Sun, comes from a superstitious lot. She was tutored from a young age in the art of the four-leaf clover hunt; she knocks wood, throws salt, and carries charms in her pockets. Her debut novel, The Sky Is Everywhere, was on multiple Best Books of the Year lists, was a YALSA Best Fiction for Young Adults pick, earned numerous starred reviews, has been translated widely, and continues to enjoy great international success. Currently a full-time writer, Jandy lives and writes in San Francisco, California—not far from the settings of The Sky Is Everywhere and I’ll Give You the Sun.

I don't think I can properly review this book without just throwing flails and gifs and barbaric yawps into the air. It's that lovely, that exquisite that any review I write will just pale in comparison to the writing in the book. That said...I want you to read this book, so I have to try.I'll Give You The Sun is probably one of the most literary and imaginative YA novels I've ever read. Everything works - the writing is expressive and nuanced, with unique imagery. You can really tell that Jandy Nelson thought and thought, and thought again about every word in the novel. Every metaphor, every description fits in with the themes of breaking and remaking, family and relationships, art and inspiration. It's an incredibly tight novel, and it's one that could easily have been placed in the literary fiction section of a bookstore. The themes of I'll Give You The Sun are explored exquisitely - and the plot follows in a very sophisticated manner. This is a definitely a form-follows-function book - but it's done so damn brilliantly that you'll be in awe. The premise/form of the book is that Noah and Jude, fraternal twins, each have their own side of the story, Noah at age 13 and Jude at age 16. As a reader, we see both sides and how mistakes and choices change and shape each of them. The brilliance comes through how each reveal is made - to the reader and to the characters. And what makes the book even more complex is how each of those reveals follows the themes of breaking and remaking, of splitting apart and coming together that shape the characters and the novel. The characters and relationships between them are full and clearly realized. I already mentioned the premise of the book, but let me just say that Noah and Jude are probably the most flawed and complex teen characters I've read EVER. I honestly can't think of more broken, fragile and alive characters that exist in YA fiction. We get every crazed, messed-up thought in their heads, all of their stupid actions, all of their esoteric behaviors...and it's just gorgeous to behold.I'll Give You The Sun has one of the most realistic - and sexy - LGBTQ relationships I've ever read. This sounds weird to say, but in most YA I've read, I've never had to fan myself at a gay relationship - maybe that says more about what I read than what I don't read. This book, however, had what I imagine to be a very realistic gay relationship in its teens, and it's tumultuous and hard and beautifully steamy at a few moments. The portrayal of art and the way it touches people will leave you inspired. I am probably the worst artist in the world (I can't even draw a straight line), but I was amazed and gratified by how art shapes the characters, how it changes and hurts them, and how it strengthens them. Art is almost like a secondary character in this book, and the way that Noah and Jude create and destroy is not just a metaphor for what they do but it almost turns into a way of living for them. The romances are soul-crushing and soul-illuminating. Here's the thing: when Noah and Jude meet their respective partners, it's pretty much instantaneous intrigue. It's not quite total insta-love, but it's close. You guys know how I feel about insta-love (and one of them is a bad boy!)...but somehow, Jandy Nelson's writing can break all my rules and make me believe. I'm just going to give you one unbelievable passage, and you tell me you're not intrigued and kind of in love:I know he's taking a hundred pictures, but I don't care anymore. A hot series of shivers is running through me as he continues clicking and saying: Yes, thank you, this is totally bloody it, perfect, yes, yes, sodding hell, God, look at you. It's like we're kissing, way more than kissing. I can't imagine what my face must look like. "You're her," he says finally, putting the cover over the lens. "I'm sure of it.""Who?" I ask.But he doesn't answer, just walks down the aisle toward me, a lazy, lanky walk that makes me think of summer. He's completely unwound now, went from high gear to no gear the moment he covered the lens. As he approaches, I see that he has one green eye and one brown eye, like he's two people in one, two very intense people in one.Jandy Nelson perfectly understands how closely entwined joy and sadness are. Guys, Jandy Nelson KNOWS. She understands why exquisite happiness is sometimes achieved only through understanding loss. She understands how grief can engulf and change and break a family, and how art can save and remake us. I don't know how else to explain the mingled feelings of happiness, bittersweet joy, and infinite sadness that engulfed me while reading except to say that Jandy Nelson is the YA Walt Whitman. The Final Word:I could go on and on about I'll Give You The Sun, but honestly, it won't hold a candle to the book itself. If you like literary novels, if you want all the feels, this book needs to be on top of your TBR list. Read it now. Bask in the beauty. And then give it to a friend, because a book this good demands to be shared.

Thank you to AudioBookSync.com for giving this Audio Book away during the Summer program last year...I would like to stand up and give this book an endless standing ovation - complete with jumping, screaming, whooping, and cheering.... I loved this book so much that I ordered a hard copy to place on my book shelf and drool over whenever I walked past. I loved this book so much that I think I may read and reread it many times over. I loved this book so much that I want to purchase a copy for each and every single friend and family member and insist that they read it. Do you see the pattern here? I LOVED this book!!!!Being that it was a recording that I listened to, I have to give extreme complements to the two readers. Since this book is told from both perspectives of Jude and Noah, a male and a female reader where needed. They both read with such intensity and feeling that I felt like I was in the room with the characters. So full of emotion and feelings where their depictions, that I could not stop myself from laughing out loud or sobbing like a baby during certain moments. I truly did not want the book to end.I must also say that the writing style is unbelievable. To me it seemed almost perfect. The imagery was spot on. The details immaculate. The characters were living, breathing people with so much detail and emotions that they walked right off the page for me. I related to them and loved them immediately. Furthermore, the topics handled by this story where heavy subjects - ones that you cannot just easily play with. They were handled with care and so much kindness.... each subject was examined by multiple point of views and with no bias - ultimately ending in a reasonable conclusion that made sense.Everything about this book was amazing. I highly and extremely recommend this book to all High School and older readers. You will not be disappointed.Happy Reading!

Big fan of McGrath and a long-time motocross guy. The book is funny and easy to read - broken down by experiences and ancedotes. At times it rambles around and the whole book is poorly edited - my elementary school English teacher just rolled over in her grave. But the book hits home as it tells the story of a legend in our sport. It also reminds me that although Supercross/Motocross has become huge, the players are all inter-mingled throughout the past 40 years. McGrath can win races but he can also spin a yarn. Book is fun to read.

Good book from, and about a motocross legend.McGrath changed the sport, and made it what is today. He named a journalist that did him wrong by leaking early information that was told in a confidential conversation. Not cool! I have since cancelled my subscription to the magazine he is affiliated with.

My son got me into motocross and talked about all these people. To read what Jeremy had to say was enjoyable and an easy read. Finished the book in two days.

Worked exactly as needed for my son's project on Jeremy McGrath. It was a little over his head though (it helped me help him though!)

The king

I grew up watching JM rise to glory from his amateur years all the way till today. This book certainly fills in the gap perfectly as to what this sport and the people around it really are. I have never in my life enjoyed a book as much as this one. Career record for me to read 297 pages in 2 days. Thanks for all the memories Jeremy.

And good read for all ages! My son loved it!

I bought this book for one of my middle school boys who is into motocross, and he couldn't put it down. His read it at least twice since.

Review

Seldom have I seen so much packed into so few pages. This beautifully illustrated history of the focal point of Jewish worship from the Tabernacle to the time of Herod's Temple is simply and concisely presented. . . . This volume is a worthwhile addition to your library and its use will greatly enhance your understanding of the structures that the Scripture devotes much space to detailing. (Messenger 2004-06-03)The photographs are spectacular; the text is simple, yet concise and comprehensive. If you want to step back in time for a quiet evening of walking through the Temple, mingling with the priests and Israelites in activities at the ancient House of God, you will not be disappointed. The Kregel Pictorial Guide to the Temple, from cover to cover, is both a marvelous aid for teaching the tremendous truths bound up in the Temple worship and ritual and an illuminating personal adventure. (Elwood McQuaid Friends of Israel 2004-06-03)

"The Kregel Pictorial Guide to the Temple" is a Bible reference guide with full-color illustrations of the tabernacle, Solomon's Temple, and Herod's Temple with text giving an overview of what they looked like and what went on in them. The information was given in two-page spreads. The first spread was on the tabernacle with an artist illustration of what the tabernacle would have looked like, a floor plan, and a description of the tabernacle taken from the Bible. Next was Solomon's Temple with an artist illustration of what his temple would have looked like, a floor plan, and a description taken from the Bible.Next some history was given about what happened between Solomon's and Herod's reigns. There was a photograph of Alec Garrard's temple model (a close-up on the temple and women's court). The next spread was an artist's illustration of what Jerusalem looked like in AD 30, though it's not the best illustration I've seen of this. The next spread gave the floor plan of Herod's temple, a picture of the model's Antonia Fortress, and a photograph of the Temple Mount retaining wall as is seen today. Information was given about what Herod did to expand the Temple area and what the temple looked like at that time. The next spread contained pictures of the model: the sheep pool, sacrificial sheep pens, and the tradesmen's stalls outside the temple. It briefly covered the types of sacrifices given in the temple. The next spread contained a photograph of the model of Herod's temple and surrounding courts. Next was a photograph of the model's court of priests (with altar, laver, posts for tying live animals, and butchering stations for the priests' work). The next two pages gave a brief overview of the temple festivals and had pictures of models of the lampstand, the table of the showbread, worshipers coming to the temple, and priests leading a red heifer out of the temple to the Mount of Olives.Next, the book gave some insights about Jesus' visits to the temple: his visit at age 12; when he confronted the moneychangers as an adult; when he went to the various festivals; and his confrontations with the religious leaders. Then it had sections on the destruction of the temple (with pictures of Titus's Arch), the modern remains (with pictures from the Wailing Wall), a modern aerial picture of the temple mount area, and a section talking about the heavenly temple. While a decent resource, none of the information in the text was new to me. It might be to someone who didn't know much about the topic, though. I found the illustrations and the pictures of the model interesting because they had the priests actually in the temple doing their work (which I haven't seen elsewhere). Overall, it's a decent resource but don't expect a great deal of depth to the information.

There is a wealth of information packed into this little guide to the Temple in Jerusalem. The extremely concise writing gives you the essential background information on the Tabernacle, Solomon 's Temple, and Herod's Temple. A survey of the history of the Temple and the festivals associated with it are also included. The book then takes you to the future, up to the absence of a temple in the New Jerusalem. But by far, the greatest assets of this little guide are the outstanding pictures of Alec Garrard's authentic model of Herod's Temple. They not only convey a sense grandeur and immense size, but they really allow the viewers to immerse themselves mentally into the temple culture of those times. There is even a drawing of how the city of Jerusalem looked in 30 A.D. (although the Hippodrome is placed in the northeast corner of the city, whereas it is normally thought to have been located just southeast of the temple mount.) Readers will possess a basic knowledge of the Temple and festivals simply by studying this short book. You get a lot for your money here. I recommmend it for expert and novice alike.

In my comment below, I must have been sleeping when I said that the Hippodrome (the oblong stadium that Herod used for chariot racing) was thought to be located just southeast of the Temple Mount. That would place it in the Kidron Valley! I meant to say just southwest of the Temple Mount. In any case it is a rather trivial matter, but one that jumped out at me. The book is chock full of useful information and awesome pictures of Alec Garrard's model of the 2nd Temple. You will have a very good understanding of the history of the Temple after reading this book. Get it, it's worth it.

Beautifully illustrated and so informative. The reader won't have to imagine much. It's pictured right there!

I have read it and then my friends wanted to read it also. So I've let them. They also found it interesting.GGGreat Book thanks.

Excellent Product, Prompt Delivery. What else is there???

Excellent illustrations and content. Good brief overview of the temples. The volume on the tabernacle from this same series is quite good, too.

Since I am planning to read the new book, Jerusalem, I thought it would be a good idea to have a plan of the old temple to look at. It is beautifully done.

It was ment as a joke but my Father inlaw Loves it I have always told him cooking wasn't hard and now that my mother inlaw isn't able to cook everything he is slowly learning to cook for them himself and I can't believe he hasn't had one question about how to use the new slow cooker I got them with this book for Christmas

Bought this to put into a fund raising gift basket. Was only able to thumb through it and was impressed with the information and ideas provided. Would recommend it for long time and new slow cooker users.

Too much extraneous information and difficult recipes. Could use more easier recipes.

I received a slow cooker (crockpot) for Christmas. I knew absolutely nothing about cooking in a slow cooker. Then I noticed "Slow Cookers For Dummies" on Amazon. This book is great--it contains everything anyone would want to know about cooking in a slow cooker. I love the humor the author has put in as well as some great recepies.

good book. Lots of info in it. since most people know basics about crock pots though, I do feel like it should be more bullet pointed and "reference-y" but still, I always have loved the "for dummies" books. very very concise and thorough.

really disappointing! information on crockpot was ok but most of book is full of recipes for oven or stove pot.

Helps teach how to adapt recipes to slow cookers. It is a great teaching and reference tool to add to your recipe books. Recommend it highly !

I bought this book as a gift for my nephew who is a college student to help him learn how to use a crock pot to cook in while he was in class, so that when he comes home he has a hot, healthy meal waiting.
